Antlers—or Horns?
No, they aren’t the same thing.
- Deer, moose, caribou and elk have antlers (left). Antlers branch out and, even though they’re bone, fall off and grow back bigger every year.
- Buffalo, wild sheep and antelope (right) have horns. Horns are bone too, covered with keratin, but they don’t branch or fall off; they grow for life.
