Antlers—or Horns?

No, they aren’t the same thing.

  • Deer, moose, caribou and elk have antlers (left). Antlers branch out and, even though they’re bone, fall off and grow back bigger every year.
  • Buffalo, wild sheep and antelope (right) have horns. Horns are bone too, covered with keratin, but they don’t branch or fall off; they grow for life.

Antlers or horns are for self-defense—and for THIS too.
